This is the cover of Psychology Today magazine. Issue August 2008.
The cover story is "Twisted? 7 Taboos that are Perfectly Natural". Obviously a bit of take off on the Mosely scandal.
It's nice that they are looking at various sexual fantasies as normal.
What's criminal is the cover photo.
Take a closer look...
Here are just a few of the major things I see wrong.
1) Ill fitting cheap ass boots
2) What's with the boot laces done outside?
3) Really poor bra choice
But most importantly
4) The corset (which is a pretty nice one) is on UPSIDE DOWN and BACKWARDS!

The photographer did a nice job, as did the hair and make up artist.
The Stylist? OMG! She actually put her name on this? She got paid for this? How emberassing for the magazine! Didn't she ask the nice freak working at the fetish shop as to how the props are worn? Or did she just run in, buy them and run out quickly, fearing that she might have to actually interact with these weirdos?
Hasn't she actually looked at main stream fashion imagery? It's not like corsets, boots and gloves are rare on the runways and big fashion rags. I understand that maybe the images haven't reached her as they're just from little known designers like Westwood, YSL and McQueen... and shot by little known photographers like Nick Knight and Helmut Newton
What's funny is that the whip is actually quite nice, so that means that the props were obtained at good sources. Given the mag's NY based, they probably bought it at Purple Passion where they have great stuff with great helpful staff. I know they provide props to a lot of main stream shoots and stylists.
Your thoughts?

Hey, I'm a whip snob. But that's the first thing I noticed.
My favorite pair of boots has hooks and they were not cheap!
Those, I grant you, most certainly are.

and fancy meeting you here *smiles*
I, honestly, never noticed, and this is my profession!
I read the magazine, it's sitting right on my desk. NEVER noticed.
Thanks for the chuckle!
Being a corset girl myself, that backass thing just cracks me up. Even the photographer should have known better, methinks. Two minutes looking at traditional fetish shoots, as you mentioned, would have clued in a highly visual person as to what looks "right."
At least the rubber gloves were well shined. However, the "bottom" of the outfit looks like black cotton "granny-cut" panties (for lack of a better term) and seems oddly conservative compared to the rest, so that's another flaw.
Still... I haven't read the article, but it's nice that it's a positive (hopefully?) take on what we do...
Laces/visual texture vs. (probably hidden) busk?
No excuse for the underwear, though.
And, yeah, get a real woman for this! Shit!
It seems weird to me that any woman would not know how to put on a corset nowadays. I guess I am a little insulated by my surroundings, pervy and all.

Most of it is about various "abnormalities" that really are quite comment. The section about kink is here:

Hmmm... it seems that the magazine thinks that "light kink is ok, but if you have a serious fetish you need help". Seems a bit... simplistic.
Oh Jeez, LOL
"Uhm, darling? You're fondling my shoulderblades..."
gee ... that magazine looks um, vaguely familiar. I seem to remember leaving my airplane reading on a sofa someplace ......... ;)
she's kind of cute, in that vanilla girl way. reminds me of someone i met last year at that stupid desert party.
But then, you are dealing with a stylist who either was rushed to slap together something for the shoot on short notice or one who simply did not do any sort of research on putting together the outfit.
The bra choice is distracting. A long line bra would have been preferred.
I suppose the boy short panty was to impart some kind of modesty for a cover that would sit on the shelf. But, yea...as one person said, seems out of place compared to the rest of the outfit.
But, too late now for them to change it! :D
On the other hand, maybe there's nothing at all wrong with the cover and it is just part of the message: poor fashion sense may just be another one of those taboos that the shrinks at Psychology Today are trying to tell us is "perfectly natural."
It's a pretty big clue they know NOTHING about the subject matter. Was the article any good, at least?
Ah, here we go:
