"... one of the core elements embodied in
the state constitutional right to marry is the right of an individual and a couple to
have their own official family relationship accorded respect and dignity equal to
that accorded the family relationship of other couples."

".... the state’s assignment of a different name to the couple’s relationship poses a risk that the
different name itself will have the effect of denying such couple’s relationship the
equal respect and dignity to which the couple is constitutionally entitled."

"... Instead of presuming the
validity of the statutes defining marriage and establishing domestic partnership, in
effect the majority presumes them to be constitutionally invalid by characterizing
domestic partnership as a “mark of second-class citizenship.” (Maj. opn., ante, at
p. 118.) This judicial presumption contravenes the express intent of the
Legislature to equalize the rights of spouses and domestic partners."

I'm keeping my fingers crossed and hoping the good folks of CA see the common sense of it all.

Happy belated birthday. :)

I'm spreading this e-mail our campus GSA rec'd today. This is a great organization who we've worked with monitoring signature gatherers who were using shady tactics and lying to get people to sign petitions.

The right wing is already poised to take our victory away.

They have submitted what appear to be enough signatures to place a constitutional amendment on the November ballot that, if passed, would nullify today's landmark victory.

We need your help to preserve the right for ALL loving couples to marry in California. Equality for All is a coalition of organizations working to defeat this initiative. Please contribute to their campaign fund today.

What is fair simply does not matter to the right wing extremists who want to deny equality to same-sex couples and all LGBT Californians. They have already poured $2 million dollars into placing the constitutional amendment on the ballot. They are talking about spending $10 million more to pass it in November.

Equality For All needs your help to raise the millions needed to fight back and speak directly to the voters. Same-sex couples just won the right to marry. Don't let the right wing take it away. Contribute now to Equality For All!

Equality For All has been at the forefront of the fight for fairness and equality. The coalition has talked to hundreds of thousands Californians about this initiative and the harm it could cause for millions of California families. Equality For All has mobilized thousands volunteers and gathered over 76,000 signatures opposing the initiative. This is just the beginning.

We'll still have to vote down a ballot initiative to take this away, though I think even if it passed it would loose after the resulting lawsuits.
Today, is one of the best days of my life. I can marry who I want to, whomever they turn out to be.
